myhouseisamess.com

Do you think real farmer's wives (back in the day) allowed their houses to be a pig sty? Surely not. Surely every house was filled with peace and free of clutter. Right?

For the sake of personal motivation, I am going to say that things back then while not perfect were definitely a lot more peaceful than today's version of messy. Simply speaking — and I am going to generalize the entire population of "back then" when I say — people had less stuff. Less stuff = less mess. Less mess = more peace. More peace = more time. More time to build relationships.

I think our lives are a vicious cycle. We work longer hours to pay the credit card bills to pay for all the little gadgets to simplify individual projects or entertain our overwhelmed minds. But all these little simplification tools fill our houses to the brim and push our maxed-out brains (and credit cards) to the max. Then we have to reorganize. But we don't have time because we have to work harder to pay for them. Vicious cycle. So is it all worth it?

Wouldn't it be better to sift through all the "conveniences" that are cluttering up our current-day homes/minds and be left with a distilled, streamlined collection of only needed items. Then there will be less things to organize. Less stuff to pick up. Less stuff to clean. More peace. More time. Ahhh....

I believe that instead of procrastinating another minute (I have been literally paralyzed by this mess), I am going to immediately get a box and a trash bag (or three or four) and transform this mess into a home. A home with much less stuff and much more room. More room for the six of us to transform into the family unit these walls were built to house.
